Frankincense resin is natural sap harvested from the Boswellia carterii tree, that hardens into tear-shaped droplets, known as “tears,” and has a history of use as incense and in natural remedies dating back over 5,000 years. The resin is also processed into essential oils and used in perfumes. When burned over charcoal or in electric incense burners, it releases a warm, balsamic, and versatile fragrance with woody-citrus undertones. Because Frankincense is so widely used in churches, religious ceremonies and during Christmas (for its purported ability to elevate the spirit), it is often referred to as church incense or Christmas Incense. Popular in aromatherapy, where electric diffusers release its warm, grounding scent known to ease stress, calm the mind, and promote relaxation.
